Nagaland secretariat members on agitation

Kohima: Normal activities of the state Civil Secretariat was disrupted today, for the third day, with members of Nagaland Secretariat Service Association (NSSA) on a ceasework. NSSA Advisor H Lungalang today said the agitation, which began since Wednesday, continued till Saturday.
The employees demanded the state government meet their to fulfill their four-point charter of demand.
The demands include promotion of NSS cadres as per the existing Rules of Executive Business, streamlining of the administrative functioning of Law Department and Planning & Coordination Department; stopping deputation of non-cadre officers to the Secretariat and restoration of cadre post utilized by Home Department.
Asserting that the demands are being made considering the welfare of future generations and also for delivering good governance, the NSS officials also expressed that if the government fails to fulfill their demands, it would firm up stronger mode of agitation.
He said the impasse between the Governor and state government over the amendment of Rules of Executive Business has delayed the already cleared promotions to 59 NSS officers in the rank of Additional Secretary down to Junior Section officer, pending promoted, while one of the officers have already retired without being promoted.
He said the promotions were cleared by the Departmental Promotion Committee and send to the governor for approval as per the existing REB, but the ongoing impasse has delayed the process of promotion.  (PTI)
