Lusaka: At least 34 people died in a road accident in Zambia Wednesday, police officials said.

The accident occurred Wednesday morning when a bus travelling from the eastern Zambian town of Chipata to the capital Lusaka overturned, killing 28 passengers on the spot, Xinhua reported early Thursday.

Four others died while being taken to hospital.

According to Zambian police spokesperson Ndandula Siamana, the bus, carrying 88 people, instead of 58 as previously stated, was overspeeding.(IANS)

It wanted to overtake another vehicle when it hit into an oncoming truck, leading to its overturn.

The truck’s driver and a passenger were burnt to ashes in the process while the accident victims have been admitted in a local hospital, the spokesperson added. (IANS)
