SHILLONG: UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh on Sunday said the results of the Assembly elections in the four States including Delhi, where the Congress was wiped out, are an indication of the trend for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
“This is clearly a reflection of the shape of things to come. The Congress era has come to an end. The people have rejected the Congress since it has forgotten its core principle and has become a party of selfish vested interests,” Lyngdoh said on Sunday.
He said that in this age of information, people across the country would become aware of the terrible performance of the Congress party.
Lyngdoh exuded confidence that the Congress ‘is going to taste defeat in the two Parliamentary seats in the State and also in the District Council elections’.
“I am sure that the Congress would fetch poorly in the two elections in the State since their image in the eyes of the common people of the State at present is not very good,” Lyngdoh added.
No effect on State Congress: Senior Congress leader and Cabinet Minister Rowell Lyngdoh on Sunday sounded confident that the outcome of the Assembly polls in the four States would not have any bearing on the Congress party in the upcoming Lok Sabha and district council elections in the State.
“Most of these states are BJP dominated states. We must also understand that the Assembly poll in any state is fought on the basis of local issues. Therefore, it is totally wrong to conclude that the outcome of the polls in the four states would replicate in the Lok Sabha polls since the Parliamentary election are fought over national issues,” Lyngdoh, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, said here on Sunday.
He also expressed confidence that the Congress would perform outstandingly in both the Lok Sabha and District Councils election in the State.
“The people of the State would repose their faith on Congress party in both the elections,” Lyngdoh said.
