SHILLONG, June 19: State BJP vice president and GHADC MDC from Tura, Bernard N Marak on Wednesday justified the FIR filed by the Voice of the People Party against Education Minister and their demand for his resignation if the proven guilty.
“The VPP’s point of view is justified. Whatever he has said is against the VPP and certain community. Since he has taken the name of the VPP and so many allegations have been put against the VPP they have the right to file an FIR,” Marak said.
Stating that such statements are not expected from a person holding such a responsible post, Marak said nobody should indulge in hate speeches for political benefits.
Marak said Rakkam’s speech intends to create a rift between the three major communities of the state and the viral video is proof of what he said.
“I have seen that video. The translation of what he has said is correct and not manipulated. I don’t know what his motive was. I don’t know why he spoke about the VPP in Garo Hills when we did not have a VPP candidate there,” the BJP leader added.
“Maybe he was trying to create confusion, and incite communal hatred. I don’t understand why that statement was made that also in two or three places,” Marak stated.
Marak also made it clear that he did not see the VPP as a communal party since they are working for the rights of the Khasi people. “Garo parties will always work for the rights of their people and there is nothing wrong in that,” he added.
