SHILLONG, June 19: The state government has decided to solicit the views and opinions of the three district councils before coming up with an office memorandum to address the concerns associated with issue of Scheduled Tribe certificates in Meghalaya.
Besides the district councils, the government would also seek the opinion of the District Council Affairs and Law departments before coming up with the notification.
The decision was taken during a meeting held on Wednesday in the context of the issue of ST certificates and the relevance thereby to the Lineage Act passed by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.
The meeting observed the need to have uniformity in the approach to the subject of issue of ST and land certificates.
It may be mentioned that the office memorandum issued by the Social Welfare Department is confined the KHADC Act and hence the state government thought of including the other two district councils.
The JHADC is yet to frame its own Lineage Act while the GHADC is in the process of enacting such an Act.
