Extortionists nabbed in Tura, 4 new rebel outfit members held

TURA: Tura police have arrested two extortionists who were posing as GNLA members and extorting money from traders of the town, while in nearby Jengjal area four members of a new outfit were taken into custody for serving demand notes and collecting illegal funds.

Security forces arrested four members of the newly-formed A’chik Youth Liberation Front (AYLF) from Jengjal, 30 kms from Tura, and located on the main national highway to Guwahati, late Monday night.

The four accused are alleged to have extorted money from businessmen and traders and also served several dozen demand notes on behalf of the new group.

“Traders were paying up to such groups and it is high time they stopped and confided with the police. How long can they continue to pay criminals?” questioned Tura SP Mukesh Kr Singh.

The accused were identified as Keblin T Sangma (29) of Jengjal Bolbokgre, Harking B Marak (18) of Dollonggre, Nibus Marak (36) of Nengkalgre Jengjal and Eighteen Marak of Dollonggre.

Back in Tura a two member gang of extortionists was nabbed from the heart of the main market while the duo was reportedly forcing traders to pay up using a fake pistol.

Police personnel picked up Pinku A Sangma (25) of Ganol Apal village (Rongram) and Salgrang K Sangma (23) of Araimile locality and recovered from their possession a toy pistol along with five sets of demand notes.

The two extortionists were using the name of Garo outfits GNLA and UALA and also a social organization AYWO to extort money from traders.
