SHILLONG, June 24: Cautioning against influx, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Monday urged the Anti-Infiltration Wing of the Police department to continue conducting inspections and identifying the illegal immigrants across the state.
This action will avert the illegal entry of people from outside the state, said KSU general secretary Donald V Thabah.
Suggesting that the inspections should be carried out along with the different Dorbar Shnongs, Thabah lauded the Anti-Infiltration Wing for carrying out a check recently at Nongmensong and Mawpat.
Thabah also said that the Anti-Infiltration Wing should ask for work permit apart from EPIC, Aadhaar and Labour Licence. He maintained that it was important to follow up on the labourers from outside who are working in the state.
Thabah then said that the Inter-State Migrant Workmen Regulation Act, 2011, has accorded more powers to the law-enforcing agencies to check influx and regulate the employment of migrants in the state. He also questioned the state government on the delay in the implementation of the Meghalaya Residents Safety & Security Act (MRSSA) 2016.
