TURA, June 24: In view of admission invitations extended to more students from Khasi-Jaintia Hills region than the Garo Hills region, Social activist Cherian Momin has written to the principal of the College of Teachers’ Education (CTE), Rongkhon, Tura, seeking a clarification on the criteria and process for the admission to B.Ed degree programme for the academic year 2024-25.
The letter comes in the wake of 33 students from Khasi-Jaintia Hills and five from the Garo Hills region being reportedly invited to join the programme following the admission process based on their entrance examination and interview on June 19.
“Could you kindly confirm whether this preference aligns with the state reservation policy or any specific directives issued by the authorities? Additionally, the Centre has specified that for the academic year 2024-25, students won’t need to take the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) if they are seeking admission to colleges affiliated with central universities in Meghalaya and Nagaland,” said the letter.
Momin has sought clarity in the process on the following points — distribution of seats for various categories, including Garos, Khasi-Jaintia, SC, OBC and general categories, the total number of seats available for the B.Ed. course, the number of seats reserved for Garos and Khasi-Jaintia categories, and the allocation of seats for SC, OBC, and general categories.
“Moreover, if there are any specific rules or guidelines that the college follows regarding admission criteria and reservation policies for professional courses like B.Ed., please provide relevant information or documents that outline these policies comprehensively,” he said.
