Training prog in city aims to advance organic farming

SHILLONG, June 25: Aiming to foster awareness and equip participants with foundational skills in organic farming, a two-day training programme was held in the state capital.
Organised by Clover Organic Pvt. Ltd. in collaboration with the District Horticulture Office, East Khasi Hills, the event, which concluded on Tuesday, sought to empower local resource persons and cluster coordinators with essential knowledge and practices to advance organic farming in the region.
The programme is part of ambitious schemes designed to develop crop-specific organic production clusters, forge partnerships between farmers and organic businesses, boost domestic and export trades, and support organic value chain development to enhance farmers’ earnings. The training provided local resource persons and cluster coordinators-cum-field inspectors with in-depth knowledge and practical skills.
Resource persons from the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), East Khasi Hills, and the Cooperation Department led sessions on a wide array of topics.
These included the formation and operation of Cooperative Societies, adherence to NPOP guidelines for organic farming, field preparation and management, soil sample collection, on-farm inputs preparation, plantation methodology, post-harvest practices, and intercropping techniques.
