SHILLONG, June 26: Former KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM), Teinwell Dkhar, passed away at his residence in Mawlong, Shella on Wednesday morning at the age of 62 after a prolonged illness. His funeral will be held in Mawlong on Thursday.
Teinwell Dkhar, a four-time UDP MDC from the Shella constituency, was first elected in 2004. He served as CEM in 2019 and held several significant positions in the council, including Chairman and Leader of the Opposition. It was previously announced that he would not seek re-election after the current term.
UDP Parliamentary leader in the KHADC MDC, Titosstarwell Chyne, expressed his condolences, describing Dkhar’s death as a great loss to the party.
Chyne recalled how he and the late Dr. Donkupar Roy, former president of the UDP, had approached Dkhar to contest the MDC election in 2003 while he was still teaching in a school in Mawkyrwat. Chyne shared a personal connection with Dkhar, noting they were schoolmates at St. John Higher Secondary School, Sohra.
He also mentioned that Dkhar was a loyal party member who remained with the UDP until his passing. Deputy CEM, Pynshngain N. Syiem, also lamented Dkhar’s demise, calling it a significant loss to the council. “We will continue to remember his contributions towards the betterment and uplift of the council,” Syiem said. The Deputy CEM extended condolences on behalf of the council to Dkhar’s bereaved family.
