Guwahati: Influential All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on Thursday moved National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) against the killing of ‘two students’ in ‘fake encounter’ on Wednesday under Runikhata police station in Chirang district of Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Council (BTC).
It was informed by the ABSU president Promod Bodo.
The killing of two school students in an alleged ‘fake encounter’ by a joint team of police in Chirang district of Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Council (BTC) in the wee hours of December 11 has meanwhile sparked widespread protests by the people even as Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has ordered a high-level enquiry to be conducted by an Additional Chief Secretary into the incident. The enquiry report is to be submitted within 30 days.
The state police claim that the two slain youth were members of Sangbijit faction of the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) and killed in an encounter with a joint team of police and army at Raidangbari under Runikhata police station in Chirang district.
The deceased were identified as Jeremiya Narzary (Class X) and Pranjit Narzary (Class VI). One Nikodim Narzary (Class VII) sustained serious injuries. Pranjit and Nikodim were students of Salbari Middle English School.
The killings sparked violent protests all over BTC areas while locals attacked Runikhata Police Station and burnt down four motor-cycles and three bicycles of the police and tried to torch the police station.
Meanwhile , a statement e-mailed to the media, Ranjan Daimary faction of the NDFB which has signed truce pact with Government of India last week, claimed that the two slain youth were innocent students.
