Issue of appointment, termination letters to be delayed

SHILLONG: There is still delay on the part of the Education department to send appointment letters to the deserving candidates and termination letters to those whose appointment have come under the cloud in the wake of the education scam.

A day after Principal Secretary, Education, PK Srivastava, informed that instructions have been sent to Director, School Education, Ambrose Marak to issue letters of appointments to the deserving candidates, Marak said that he has sought the original copies of the order of the High Court in this regard from the Law department before issuing the letters of appointment and termination of earlier appointments.

It is noteworthy that the Education department had directed Marak to issue appointment letters to the deserving candidates in mid-November.

With the red tape in the Education department, the whole process of appointment of deserving candidates and termination of tainted candidates is unlikely to be completed within this year.

With only a few working days left in December, the appointments are likely to be made effective only next year.

Fearing termination, a group of teachers from Garo Hills and Jaintia Hills who were already appointed had sought the intervention of the High Court of Meghalaya.

A Government advocate dealing with the case said that the court had issued notice to the Government seeking its reply. The lawyer said that the Government is likely to reply early next year.

However, when contacted, Principal Secretary, Education, PK Srivastava said that the Education department has not received any direction from the Court.

“We are acting on the order of the Court on the appointment of teachers and cancellation of those who had already been appointed,” Srivastava said.

Haven’t received any order yet: JD Sangma

Former Education official, JD Sangma, against whom the Education department has initiated departmental proceedings for his alleged role in tampering of mark sheets of eligible candidates, on Friday said that he is yet to get any order in this regard.

“I have not received any order. I can make any comments only if I receive the official order,” Sangma said.
