SHILLONG: The KHADC Executive Committee has endorsed the report of the Delimitation Committee which was submitted to it on December 9.
“All the members of the EC are satisfied with the report of the Committee,” KHADC CEM Pynshngain N Syiem informed after a meeting of the Executive Committee here on Friday.
He informed that the Committee had made some minor changes to the Delimitation Bill which was passed by the Council.
“We are happy with whatever changes the Committee had made,” Syiem stated.
Meanwhile, the KHADC has convened a special session on Saturday to deliberate on the report of the Delimitation Committee.
Earlier, Syiem stated that the Executive Committee (EC) was not competent to take a final call on the report of the Committee, adding that only the House can decide on whether to accept or reject the same.
Meanwhile, sources have indicated that most of the KHADC MDCs are in favour of the upcoming election being held under proposed delimited constituencies.
“The decision to convene a special session is more or less a formality,” sources said.
As per the proposed delimitation bill, the Council would create Umsning constituency by deleting Laitkroh constituency.
With the deletion of Laitkroh, the areas falling under the constituency have been attached to various constituencies like Mylliem, Langkyrdem and Sohra.

Meanwhile, several KHADC MDCs met Governor Dr. KK Paul on Friday seeking his intervention on the Delimitation Bill, saying that the public hearing was done in haste.
The MDCs including Lambor Malngiang (Congress) and Carmel Sohtun (KHNAM) urged the Governor for his intervention in the matter.
