TURA/ SHILLONG, July 7: The State BJP has charged political leaders and officers with indulging in corrupt practices in regard with the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme in the state.
State BJP vice president Bernard N Marak said the NREGA suppliers and vendors are deducting 50 per cent of the amount meant for material supply for the works of villagers which is prevalent in most of the C&RD Blocks in Garo Hills.
According to him, some of these suppliers said they have to cut the amount because they have to pay the political leaders and some officials out of the sanctioned amount.
He said this is the reason why many villages could not complete the work in time.
“I would urge the villagers from whom 50 to 60% is being deducted by the suppliers and vendors to report immediately to my office and we will file FIR against those who are depriving the villagers,” he said.
“We will inform the CM’s office and Deputy Commissioners about these corrupt practices,” the State BJP vice president added.
