KHLIEHRIAT, July 9: In the gruesome case of Umpleng killings, there is suspicion that the four victims may have been killed at a different location and their bodies subsequently dumped near Umpleng market, East Jaintia Hills, according to sources.
The police are actively investigating the case and conducting thorough searches to apprehend those responsible for the murders, while the community mourns the tragic loss and calls for justice.
The FKJGP-East Jaintia Hills has strongly condemned the incident. They expressed their outrage over the inhumane treatment of the victims, stating that even if accused of wrongdoing, individuals should be dealt with through legal means and not subjected to such violence. The organisation urged the public to report any criminal activities to the authorities rather than taking the law into their own hands.
It may be recalled that the bodies of four youths were discovered at Umpleng in East Jaintia Hills lying with their hands tied with rope and multiple cut injuries on their bodies, likely caused by sharp objects. The victims were identified as Ravi Rai (23) from Elam, Meghalaya, Nazar Kyndait (33) from Dkhiah East, and Rajesh Rai (26) from Dharan Sunsari, Koshi Zone, Nepal. The fourth body remains unidentified.
The Additional SP of Khliehriat stated that while three of the bodies have been handed over to their relatives after post-mortem examinations, no one has yet claimed the fourth body, which is currently at the Civil Hospital Khliehriat.
Earlier, a Special Investigation Team was also constituted to assist in the investigation of the alleged multiple murders.
