Kohima: A major fire that broke out Saturday evening gutted around seven garages at the Burma Camp Zeliangrong colony of Dimapur town, while several vehicles were also burnt in the inferno.
Sources said that the fire also gutted down around 20 houses, 4 shops and a Saw mill, for which over two hundred of people have been rendered homeless due to the fire, which destroys their homes.
They said that the estimated loss could not be ascertained. A mega mela in the vicinity, organized by Shokhuvi Students’ Union, however, has been spared by providence.
The fire spread immediately to neighbouring areas after it broke out from one place, while the first fire tenders, which arrived on the scene, could be of no help, as one of the vehicles contained no water. A minor scuffle also broke out between the public and police when they found that the fire tender had reached without water.
Eyewitnesses said that the fire could be brought under control after an hour of fire fighting by the firemen, while local people also extended helping hand in preventing the fire to spread to other locations.
The cause of the fire was not known so far, however investigation was on, sources said. (UNI)
