Association of Qualified Candidates, Grade IV-2011

SHILLONG: The indefinite hunger strike of the Association of Qualified Candidates, Grade IV-2011, East Khasi Hills entered its third day on Wednesday.
This is third phase of agitation called by the association ever since the merit list was extended till January 29.
Before this, the association had earlier organised a three-day sit-in-demonstration and an indefinite hunger strike to demand from the Government to remove the various Adhoc and temporary appointments in the various Government department.
The association wanted the Government to appoint the qualified candidate in their place.
“We are no longer demanding for the removal adhoc and temporary appointments. We would want the State Government to give an assurance to extend the merit list till all the qualified candidates are given an appointment,” association president T Mylliempdah said.
He said that they would continue with their indefinite hunger strike till the State Government gave an assurance.
The association president informed there are still 110 of them who are waiting for the appointment.
When contacted, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal said that the indefinite hunger strike called by the candidates is unwarranted
“There is no justification to call the agitation when the validity of the merit list expires on January 29,” Goyal said.
When asked if the validity of the merit list would be extended again after it expires, he said that he could not comment anything since the decision to extend the merit list was taken at a higher level.
While replying to the demand of the association to remove the remove the Adhoc and temporary appointments, he said that they have sought a clarification from the various departments on the claim of the association.
“But all the Government departments denied that they are such vacancies. We must also understand that the District Selection Committee (DSC) is only a recommending body,” Goyal said.
