SHILLONG, July 30: East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger, has directed all in-charge of various police stations and outposts to ensure that government vehicles are parked in safe locations, avoiding roadside parking. This directive follows the arson of a government vehicle of Public Works Department (PWD) in Umkdait, Nongmensong, early Monday morning.
The SP stated that the instruction aims to prevent further incidents of government vehicles being targeted by miscreants. He has also requested East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, RM Kurbah, to advise other government departments to follow the same precautions.
In addition to these measures, Nongtnger mentioned that night patrols and checkpoints are being conducted in the city to maintain law and order.
“The law and order situation is stable except for some small incidents,” the SP noted.
Regarding the arson incident at Nongmensong, Nongtnger confirmed that no arrests have been made yet. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the torching of the government vehicle.
