Shillong, Aug 4: The Meghalaya Boxing Association (MBA), in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, is set to host the State Sub-Junior and Junior Boys & Girls Boxing Championships at the Indoor Sports Hall, Mawlai Mawroh, Shillong, from August 7 to 9, 2024.
This event will feature over 100 boxers from eight districts, including three from the Garo region and five from the Khasi, Jaintia, and Bhoi regions.
The championship aims to provide a platform for young boxers across the state to showcase their talent and skills.
The MBA plans to select winners from this tournament to represent Meghalaya in future regional and national boxing championships.
The Sub-Junior Division includes boxers aged 13 to 14, while the Junior Division features those aged 15 to 16.
The Sub-Junior category has 14 weight divisions ranging from 31-33 kg to 67-70 kg. The Junior category includes 12 weight divisions, starting from 44-46 kg up to 75-80 kg, for both boys and girls.
The competition format consists of three rounds of two minutes each, with a one-minute rest between rounds. The IBA’s 10-point must-score system will be used, and the championship will adhere to IBA’s Technical & Competition Rules.
Matches will commence at 10 am each day from August 7 to 9, 2024.The upcoming State Sub-Junior and Junior Boys & Girls Boxing Championships promise to be an exciting showcase of young talent from across Meghalaya.
