SHILLONG, Aug 4: Additional Director General (ADG) of the Border Security Force (BSF) for the Eastern Command, Ravi Gandhi, arrived in Meghalaya to review and assess various operational and administrative issues.
The BSF ADG thoroughly reviewed issues related to illegal activities, infiltration, and smuggling. He highlighted that the people of Meghalaya are peace-loving and supportive of security forces, rejecting infiltrators who could burden the economy. He expressed his determination to stop infiltration, offering clear directives and valuable tips. He urged heightened vigilance and reiterated that security along the Indo-Bangladesh border has been strengthened to prevent any illegal entry.
ADG Gandhi also commended the field commanders and BSF personnel for their efforts to curb infiltration and trans-border crimes despite adverse climatic conditions and the tough terrain of Meghalaya. He affirmed the BSF’s commitment to maintaining the integrity and security of the nation’s borders.
The ADG had, on Saturday, travelled to East Khasi Hills bordering areas to evaluate operational and technical challenges. There, he laid emphasis on the professional and dynamic manner in which the BSF is managing the Indo-Bangladesh border, despite the region’s specific issues. Meghalaya, known for its seven-month-long monsoon season, presents significant challenges, yet BSF personnel continue to perform their duties valiantly, he remarked.
The next day, Gandhi chaired a joint meeting with civil administration and police officers from the Garo Hills districts, including the DIG Police, Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police Tura, along with BSF officers.
The meeting focused on increasing mutual trust and synergy between the BSF and the police. ADG Gandhi also inspected the electronic surveillance grid used to enhance border operations and stressed the importance of installing the latest surveillance equipment to ensure effective border management.
