SHILLONG: A group of qualified candidates, who are eager to get appointment as teachers, has moved the High Court seeking cancellation of appointment of some teachers, which was done through unfair means.
Several unqualified candidates were given appointment by changing the marks obtained by them when Ampareen Lyngdoh was the Education Minister and the matter was unearthed by the CBI.
It was on December 16 that a group of 13 candidates from Garo Hills filed a petition before the Meghalaya High Court to cancel the appointment of ‘tainted’ candidates.
The petitioners were not part of those candidates who had earlier sought the intervention of the High Court which resulted in the constitution of CBI probe and subsequent formation of High Level Scrutiny Committee to further scrutinize both the tainted and non-tainted teachers.
A lawyer on behalf of the petitioners said that the High Court issued notice to the State Government seeking its response within four weeks.
