TURA, Aug 7: Combined groups from Garobadha in West Garo Hills have served an August 16 deadline to the Police Department to arrest a man accused of molesting a minor.
The incident had reportedly taken place at Garobadha market on August 2.
In their complaint to the West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, the groups, viz. GSU, FKJGP, AYWO, ADE, APA and AHAM demanded immediate arrest of the alleged perpetrator.
According to the complaint filed by the combined groups, the incident took place on August 2, when a minor, in her school uniform, was found in a compromising position by villagers, in the godown of a shop owned by the accused.
An FIR, based on the statements of the victim, was subsequently filed at the Garobadha Investigation Centre.
However, with no arrest of the accused even after five days, the groups, along with the locals, have expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation.
The groups also accused the investigating officer of not committing to the case.
They claimed that the police are yet to trace the accused despite his mobile phone being switched on.
As per the complaint, the copy of the FIR has not been provided to the family members of the victim or the findings of the medical report shared with them.
It was also alleged that so far, no counseling has been given to the victim by the DCPO.
Cautioning that there was mounting pressure from the public, who had been frustrated with the situation, the groups demanded that the accused be arrested within the given deadline or that they would resort to agitation.
