MAWJYMBUIN CAVE CONFLICT

SHILLONG, Aug 8: The High Court of Meghalaya has allowed a society named Yatra and the Dorbar Shnong of Mawsynram to try and resolve the issue in question with regard to the grant of the no objection certificate for conducting the annual pilgrimage to Krem Mawjymbuin, Mawsynram.
Following a Wednesday order of the High Court, the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner, the superintendent of police, and members of the Dorbar Shnong were present in person in the court on Thursday.
“In the course of the proceedings and on hearing the respondents as also the DC and the SP, it was found necessary that some time be allowed as prayed by the respondents to try and resolve the issue in question with regard to the grant of the NOC,” the court order said.
The court expects that an amicable solution will be arrived at before the next date of hearing on August 14.
Earlier, a registered society under the name and style of Yatra had approached the High Court of Meghalaya, aggrieved that the authorities have not granted NOC for the annual pilgrimage to the Mawjymbuin Cave in Mawsynram revered by the Hindus.
