Shillong: Taking time off from their law and order duties, police of East Khasi Hills district attended a pre-Christmas celebration at the Police Reserve, near Jail Road. Speaking at the function, DG Police, PJP Hanaman said such celebrations remind us that Christmas is a season of peace and goodwill for all mankind. He said the police have been on their toes during the last four months and even on Monday many could not attend as they had to keep all round vigil because of the 12-hour bandh called by the HNLC.
“Despite what the media says and its sharp and unrelenting criticism of our work we have tried our best to deliver. While people observe their religious festivities our boys are on guard all the time. It is the vigilance of the police that allows people to breathe easy,” Hanaman said.
Earlier Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills M Kharkrang welcomed the guests which included members of civil society and said that the pre-Christmas celebration is a gesture of goodwill since police can only succeed by working together with members of the society.
Rev Reuben Laloo of the Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Church gave a short message followed by a prayer. A young choir group entertained the guests and police personnel. Many however could not attend as they were on duty.
