NONGPOH, Aug 10: A gas cylinder supplier in Nongpoh area has been accused of fraudulent activities after being found to have allegedly filled cylinders with water to increase their weight and deceive customers.
The fraudulent activities of the supplier, which usually supplies gas cylinders weighing around 15.2 kilograms to the residents of Nongpoh through the Ri Bhoi Gas Agency, were uncovered by Marian Syngkli, a resident of Sohlait Thymmai village, who discovered the deception when she weighed an empty gas cylinder.
The cylinder, which should have weighed around 15.2 kilograms when full, still weighed 19.80 kilograms even after the gas had been completely used up.
Speaking to media persons, Syngkli said the gas cylinder, which she received on June 11, 2024, ran out by June 24, 2024, much earlier than expected.
She said a cylinder typically lasts an entire month for her household.
She was taken aback when she noticed a sloshing sound while lifting the empty cylinder, revealing that nearly half of the cylinder was filled with water.
Immediately after the shocking discovery, Syngkli filed an FIR at Nongpoh Police Station, calling for legal action against the company responsible for such a fraudulent act.
