SHILLONG: In what can be termed as a proud moment for the State, two CSI-Nihilent e-Governance Awards for the year 2012-13 was bagged by Meghalaya during the 48th Annual Convention of the Computer Society of India (CSI) held recently at Vishakhapatnam recently.
Transport Minister HDR Lyngdoh received the awards from J  Satyanarayana, Chairman of Computer Society of India and Secretary, Information & Communication Technology Department
The two e-governance projects for which the awards were conferred are Awards of Recognition for the Dealer Point Registration of Transport Department and Award of Appreciation for e-Payment of Taxes of Taxation Department
It may be mentioned that the Dealer Point Registration application facilitates the online registration of vehicles at the showroom of car dealers, adding the system is a step toward decentralizing the digitization of registration data and eliminating cash handling at RTO cash counter which makes the Vehicle registration process more simplified and easier.
This e-System enables the car dealers to initiate the vehicle registration process by entering all the details of the vehicle, owner of the vehicle etc. and make online payment of various fees such as Registration Fees, Road Taxes etc using the internet Banking facility of the State Bank of India.
The services was launched last year by the then Minister of Transport AT Mondal.
With the launching of this service, the citizen is “saved” from the agony of making several visits to the RTO’s office to get the Registration Certificate and at the same time it has reduced the footfall and work pressure at the Transport Office.
The other award E-payment or Electronic Payment of Taxes is an additional mode of payment in addition to the conventional method offered by the Taxation Department with the Banks to the trading community.
The system is integrated with three banks -SBI, ICICI Bank & Vijaya Bank and the system also has the SMS facility by which the dealers is informed whenever the transaction is executed successfully.
