SHILLONG: Taking a cue from the previous cases of arson that were reported in the city, the city police have provided Binoculars to the patrolling team that looks after Motphran and nearby areas.
A senior police official said that the binoculars have been provided with an aim to enhance the security since police cannot be deployed in each and every area of the city.
It may be mentioned that Binoculars, field glasses or binocular telescopes are a pair of identical or mirror-symmetrical telescopes mounted side-by-side and aligned to point accurately in the same direction, allowing the viewer to use both eyes when viewing distant objects and binoculars give users a three-dimensional image for nearer objects the two views, presented to each of the viewer’s eyes from slightly different viewpoints, produce a merged view with an impression of depth.
Police believe that the police patrolling party be it local police or CrPF who mans the area can have a view of the far flung localities from Motphran bridge with the help of binoculars.
Officials said that now even police party is patrolling the Iewduh market to keep a vigil on any unwanted element who tries to create law and order problems inside Iewduh.
Two cases of arson has been reported from Motphran in the pro ILP related violence as earlier miscreants poured petrol and burnt one Bikash Nandwani inside his shop at Motphran besides a petrol bomb was also hurled at a road side vendor at Mawkhar recently.
