Former Meghalaya Chief Minister Salseng C Marak passes away

Guwahati, Aug 16: Former Chief Minister of Meghalaya and Senior Congress leader Salseng C Marak passed away on Friday at Tura Civil Hospital (TCH) on West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya. He was 82.

He had been suffering from age related illness and had been admitted to the Holy Cross Hospital before being shifted to TCH after his condition deteriorated.

Marak, who was the Chief Minister of Meghalaya during 1993 –1998, was the 6th chief minister of the hill state. He was also the President of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has condoled the death of the former chief minister Marak. Taking to the “X” Conrad Sangma said, “Deeply saddened to learn of the demise of former CM Salseng C Marak. His contributions to Meghalaya’s development will always be remembered. My condolences to his family and loved ones. May he rest in peace.”
