BSF gives list to BGB authority
AGARTALA: Despite repeated denial by Bangladesh authority, as many as 51 NE militant hideouts still exist in the neghbouring country’s soil, according to highly places sources.
Of the total militant hideouts, the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), one of the powerful insurgent organization has the highest number of camps in Bangladesh soil with 23 hideouts. While the Manipur based outfit- PLA has second highest militant camps- 7, the NSCN and ULFA have four and three hideouts respectively.
Reports from across the border said, no top-ranked NE rebel leader is staying in Bangladesh due to security reason. Rebel leaders like Biswamohan Debbarma (NLFT) and Paresh Baruah (ULFA) have been frequently changing their bases to evade arrest.
The list of militant hideouts along with specific inputs have already been given to the Bangladesh Border Guards (BGB) to act against the NE insurgents. Though the BGB or RAB have been taking ‘some steps’ Indian authority especially BSF officials want more proactive role on the part of Bangladesh authority. Militants sheltered in Bangladesh soil have already stepped up their subversive activities taking the advantage of recent turmoil in the neghbouring country.
“As everybody knows, the rebel leaders had to struggle a lot during the past four and half years. Now, the situation could be changed with the situation in Bangladesh getting worst with every passing days”, said a senior BSF official here on Thursday.
According to another sources, NLFT insurgents have been using the Kanchanpur-Mizoram border to sneak into Bangladesh since the area is relatively safe for them. However, of late the Assam Rifles authority has beefed up security coverage along the Bangladesh and Myanmar border.
