Shillong, August 21: NPP state president, Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday said that there is no truth in the report that the party plans to replace with former MP, Agatha K. Sangma if the present Rajya Sabha, Dr WR Kharlukhi decides to quit before his six years term expire in 2026.
While speaking to reporters, Tynsong said that he would like to know how such a report came out and on what basis.
When asked if Dr Kharlukhi decided to quit on personal grounds, he said that if it is personal grounds then it is a different case.
The NPP state president however maintained that it should be through proper channels.
“If he (Kharlukhi) intends to resign as the MP Rajya Sabha before the term then we can discuss. As of now there is no such plan on the part of the party,” Tynsong said.
It may be mentioned that affection of three Congress MLAs has not only helped the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) secure a simple majority on its own, but it has also placed the party in a commanding position for the Rajya Sabha election which is likely to happen earlier than scheduled.
There are chances that Kharlukhi is likely to call it quits any time before his term expires and the NPP has to find someone for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Meghalaya, as and when the election takes place.
