Nongpoh, Aug 21: The Ri Bhoi People Council (RBPC) conducted an inspection of the Nongpoh Town Shopping Complex on Wednesday following numerous complaints from residents and shopkeepers, uncovering significant issues related to the management and maintenance of the facility.
The organisation’s intervention comes as a response to growing frustration among the local community, who have been enduring poor conditions for an extended period.
Led by RBPC president Jayson Lennox Nongrum, the inspection team reportedly found a range of deficiencies, including inadequate toilet facilities, insufficient water supply and unreliable electricity services. Shopkeepers have long reported these problems but have received little to no response or solutions from the complex’s management.
The inspection also highlighted severe cleanliness issues around the shopping complex. The team discovered evidence of open defecation and accumulated garbage, which have created unpleasant odors and could pose serious health risks to those working and shopping in the area.
Airing his concern, RBPC president Nongrum told media persons, “The situation we found today is alarming and needs to be addressed immediately.”
He further stated that the RBPC plans to bring these issues to the attention of the DC at the earliest, stressing the need for urgent action to improve the conditions at the shopping complex.
