NONGPOH, Aug 21: Local MLA Celestine Lyngdoh’s shocking shift from Congress to the ruling NPP has evoked resentment from leaders of the Umsning Block Congress Committee.
In this connection, an urgent meeting was held at Nongthymmai Umsning on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by the ad hoc president of the Ri-Bhoi District Congress Committee, MG Kharshanlor, the president of the Umsning Block Congress Committee, Rocky A Marwein, along with other office-bearers from the block and various units under Umsning constituency.
Speaking to the media, Congress’s Umsning block president Marwein said that Celestine Lyngdoh’s decision to join the NPP was not something that was informed by the latter or discussed with his fellow party office-bearers in the Congress, but rather it was his personal decision.
Marwein also stated that as of now, the Congress party remains strong and resilient in Umsning constituency as it has always been, with all the party office-bearers continuing to stand firm with the Congress.
Marwein further revealed that during a recent party meeting, Lyngdoh had revealed that he would only support the MDA 2.0 government to secure developmental schemes to meet the needs of the public, but he did not disclose that he would fully join the NPP.
It may be recalled that three Congress MLAs Charles Marngar, Gabriel Wahlang and Umsning legislator Dr Celestine Lyngdoh joined the NPP at a function in Shillong on August 19.
