Spurt in deaths in coal mines

SHILLONG: There is no end to the deaths in coal mines in East Jaintia Hills.
In a recent case, L. Shadap, the Secretary of  Mookhain village lodged a complaint at Khliehriat police station that on December 24 at around 6 pm, one Wes Pakem fell into a coal pit at Mookhain village in East Jaintia Hills. He died on the spot.
It is yet to be known whether Pakem was a coal mine worker or he accidentally fell into the coal pit since the area was not fenced.
Yet again one Sebastian Swer lodged an FIR at Khliehriat police station that on December 25 at around  2 pm, a boulder fell on labourer  identified as Horendra Das while he was working in a coal quarry at Bataw village in East Jaintia Hills. The victim died on the spot.
