TB patients receive food packages at JH programme

KHLIEHRIAT, Aug 24: In an effort to disseminate public awareness on the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) and the newly launched Pradhan Mantri TB-Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (PMTBMBA), the Office of the District Tuberculosis Officer, Jaintia Hills, in collaboration with Star Cement Limited, Lumshnong, organised food distribution programmes on Friday.
These initiatives, held under the Community Support Scheme for TB patients, were organised at Khliehriat Civil Hospital and Sutnga Community Health Centre.
At Khliehriat Civil Hospital, the programme was attended by East Jaintia Hills DM&HO, Dr. D. Shylla; Medical Officer in-charge of Khliehriat Civil Hospital, Dr. A. Lakiang; Medical Officer in-charge of the Tuberculosis Centre in Jowai, Dr. DS Tariang; Manager-CSR at Star Cement Limited, Lumshnong, Kingshok K. Borah, among other officials.
After the programme, food packages containing rice, mustard oil, eggs and other essentials were distributed among 18 patients.
Similarly, at Sutnga CHC, a total of 27 patients received food packages as part of the initiative. The event was attended by the Medical & Health Officer in-charge of Sutnga CHC, Dr. L. Sutnga; Senior Tuberculosis Laboratory Supervisor, Watson Siangshai; Senior Treatment Supervisor, Linus Manner, et al.
During the programme, health officials informed that 100 TB patients in EJH have received nutritional support under the Community Support Scheme.
