A new Laitumkhrah by Feb 2014

SHILLONG: Laitumkhrah junction is one of the most busiest junctions of the city which often remains clogged with vehicles and the State Government has now decided to improve the junction to facilitate traffic passage that can surely reduce congestion.
Urban Affairs Minister and the local MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the junction improvement project for Laitumkhrah has started and the work is going on full swing despite several constraints.
She added that that the idea behind the project is to create a better traffic passage as the junction is often clogged with vehicles.
For the project, many electrical poles will be re-aligned and, the project is expected to complete by February and the deadline for the project is February 15.
The total estimated budget of the junction improvement project of Laitumkhrah is 62.20 lakhs and it includes a land compensation of Rs 25 lakhs besides an amount of Rs 23.25 lakhs has been earmarked for MeECL as they removed their electrical transformer from the junction to pave way for the project.
According to Lyngdoh, the current work is a junction improvement project.
The project was overdue and the initial works for the project like removing of transformer has started a year back and the State Government has similar plans for other over clogged junctions of the city.
