SHILLONG: In what could be termed as a significant achievement for the State of Meghalaya, Nazareth Hospital, Shillong was adjudged as one of the recipients of the prestigious ‘India Healthcare Awards’, an award ceremony initiated by ICICI Lombard and CNBC-TV18.
In a glittering event held on December 23 at The Shahjahan Hall, Taj Palace, New Delhi, Nazareth Hospital bagged the National award for ‘Outstanding service to the community’ under the RSBY scheme.
The award holds significance in the pretext that this is the only Hospital from the State of Meghalaya to be conferred with such recognition and Nazareth Hospital emerged as one of 27 finest health care service providers in India from a total 3500 nomination from all over the country.
Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission of India, Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia presented the award which was received by Dr Hughbert Dkhar, Senior Pathologist on behalf of the Hospital. “The healthcare services in rural areas need a tremendous boost and as Mother Teresa once said, if you can’t do great things in this world, you can do small things with great love. This quote was the motivation behind our zeal to reach the unreached and touch the untouched,” an elated Dr Hughbert said.
The India Healthcare awards are conferred on the best Hospitals across different areas of specialization and geographies based on a rigorous and objective evaluation process.
The categories in which the awards are conferred include General Service, Tertiary Care Hospitals (multi and single specialty hospitals), Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana award to Hospitals for outstanding service to the community and WHO awards for excellence in Primary Healthcare.
The other winners of this coveted award include reputed Hospitals like Tata Memorial Hospital, Hinduja Hospital Mumbai, Lilavati Hospital & research centre Mumbai, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute among others.
The evaluation process leading to the final selection spans three phases – Nominations, Short listing by India’s leading research agency – IMRB (based on scope of service, infrastructure, patient safety record and innovation and research) followed by final selection of the short listed hospitals by an eminent jury of experts from related fields.
