Meghalaya to host rapid chess tourney

Shillong, Aug 27: In celebration of National Sports Day, the Meghalaya Chess Association (M.C.A), in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, is organizing the “One Day Rapid Chess Tournament 2024.”
The tournament, open to players in the Under-12, Under-16, and Open categories, will take place on August 31, 2024, at Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Jail Road, Shillong. The event is being held to honor the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
Entry is free for all participants, and registration remains open until 6:00 pm on August 30, 2024. The tournament will feature a time control of 15 minutes plus a 3-second increment per move. Trophies will be awarded to the top three winners in each category.
The organizers encourage mass participation on this special day. Those interested in competing are requested to submit their names to Sumar S. Khonglah at 8794777913, Gipolson Pahsyntiew at 9856266192, or Bobby Lyngdoh at 9366138651.
As the tournament approaches, the Meghalaya Chess Association and the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs invite young chess enthusiasts and players of all levels to take part in this special event.
With free entry and trophies for the top performers, the One Day Rapid Chess Tournament promises to be a fitting tribute to Major Dhyan Chand’s legacy, promoting the spirit of sportsmanship and encouraging mass participation in the game of chess.
