SHILLONG, Aug 28: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Stone Crushers Owners’ Association and the Quarry Owners and Workers’ Association has announced an end to the ongoing strike, which was announced in protest against the existing rules under the MMMCR 2016.
Revealing this, JAC general secretary D. Pyngrope said the decision was taken following a meeting with Chief Secretary DP Wahlang.
The strike was called off after the state government, through the Chief Secretary, agreed to form a 12-member committee, comprising representatives from the JAC and government officials.
The purpose of the committee is to address the concerns of miners and traders and to incorporate their suggestions into the Meghalaya Minor Minerals Concession Rules (MMMCR) 2016.
“During the meeting, the Chief Secretary assured us that our concerns regarding the rules would be addressed, and the MMMCR 2016 would be reviewed,” Pyngrope informed.
