SHILLONG, Aug 29: General secretary of Dorbar Kur Warjri, Rev Sunshine Warjri, passed away on Thursday at Robert’s Hospital in Jaiaw after a brief illness. Rev. Warjri, who had been a cornerstone of the organisation since its founding in 1998, was a prominent figure in the community, having been an integral part of the recent Silver Jubilee celebration held in Thynroit last November.
In addition to his leadership role with Dorbar Kur, Warjri was deeply involved in various religious and social organisations. He was a dedicated member of the Young Men Christian Association and served as the pastor of the Church of Jesus Christ Full Gospel. Until his final moments, he also held the position of Registrar for the Dorbar Shnong Jaiaw Laitdom, demonstrating his commitment to his community.
He is survived by his wife, Evisnolian Sooanes, their two daughters, four sons, and several grandchildren. His legacy extends beyond his organisational roles. In his youth, he was a passionate musician with the band ‘Beat Four Beat Five’ and continued to share his musical talents in church and at Dorbar Kur Warjri gatherings.
The funeral service will be held at 2 pm at his residence in Jaiaw Laitdom, with the burial to follow at the Church cemetery in Lawmali, Shillong.
