SHILLONG, Sep 4: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday addressed concerns surrounding the preservation of the natural turf at the JN Stadium, Polo, which is scheduled to host the Bryan Adams concert on December 10.
Addressing media persons here, Conrad emphasised that, like large stadiums worldwide, the JN Stadium can be used for various events, including concerts, without damaging the turf due to advanced technology.
The chief minister also informed that the state government has decided to utilise international-level technology to cover the entire natural turf with a platform, ensuring it remains undamaged.
Assuring that this technology, successfully implemented globally, will safeguard the turf from any harm, Conrad said, “If you look all over the world, not just in India, large stadiums across the world are always used for having large gatherings and concerts. Technologies are today available in the market where the entire natural turf is covered by a platform, which will ensure people don’t stamp on the natural turf and destroy it,” he said.
He further noted that any minor effects on the turf would be reversible within seven days, and the decision to use this platform is part of the state’s strategy to maximize the utility and revenue of the infrastructure investment.
“We have seen this technology implemented successfully worldwide, so rest assured, there will be no lasting damage to the natural turf. Any minor spots affected will recover within seven days,” Conrad said, adding that the concert’s organising committee has agreed to the condition of using this platform to protect the turf.
He mentioned that the organisers would be responsible for implementing the technology, and the relevant department will conduct thorough checks before giving the final approval.
