Bypass robbery: OC gets bail

SHILLONG:  Officer in charge of Mawryngkneng police station and brother of Shillong MP Vincent Pala, Ekwin Pala who is allegedly involved in the Shillong Bypass robbery case has secured a bail.
It was on November 7 that a truck was robbed of non-ferrous materials worth over Rs 20 lakh at the Shillong Bypass.
“He (Pala) got bail from the court sometime before Christmas,” a senior police official said on Friday adding that the police are yet to file the charge sheet in the case.
The police had also arrested sub-inspector Sudarshan Sangma, unarmed branch constable, Claipson M Marak and MPRO (Meghalaya Police Radio Organisation) operator, constable Basant Lama for their direct involvement in the robbery.
The police official said that the three prime accused were posted to the newly set up police station at Mawryngkneng area, 50 km from here.
On November 7, the trio hijacked the truck loaded with copper, brass and aluminum at the Shillong by-pass and later kidnapped the driver of the truck Saidullah Alam Laskar and one Deep Kumar Nath.
