SHILLONG, Sep 12: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) East Jaintia Hills has raised concerns over the prolonged delay in the construction of the road from Rymbai Primary Health Centre (PHC) to Khliehriat under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) scheme.
The HYC met the Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), NEC Division, to inquire about the reasons behind the delay. According to a statement from HYC publicity secretary Bashan L Mawnai, the contractor was expected to begin work on the road seven to eight months ago but has failed to do so.
“This is an important road as students, patients, and the general public of the district commute through it daily,” Mawnai said, expressing frustration over the contractor’s failure to fulfill his responsibilities. The delay has caused significant inconvenience and disruption to the lives of the local residents.
Mawnai called on the concerned authorities to reassess the contractor’s commitment and efficiency. “If the contractor is unable to perform the duties as expected, the opportunity should be given to someone else who can ensure timely and proper execution of the work,” he stated.
