SHILLONG, Sep 17: The High Court of Meghalaya has directed the state government to file a composite status report with regard to the 24th and 25th interim reports of Justice (retired) BP Katakey in the matter pertaining to illegal mining and transportation of coal in Meghalaya.
The court’s order came with the observation that a lot of time has elapsed since the matter was last listed and also in view of the fact that the subsequent 25th interim report dated September 11, 2024 was filed.
The court deemed it fit at this stage to allow the state respondents to file a composite status report with regard to the 24th and 25th interim reports.
Effective orders will then be passed after the said status report is filed and after hearing the counsel for the parties, the order said.
As further remuneration was not extended after March 14, 2024, the court ordered that a sum of Rs 5 lakh be paid to Justice Katakey.
The next date of hearing has been fixed on October 15.
