SHILLONG, Sep 28: An environmental rally was held in Shillong on Saturday to raise awareness about pressing environmental challenges and the need to address the same.
Organised by Saindur Enviro, in collaboration with several organisations under the Swachhata Hi Seva initiative, the rally drew over 150 participants, including NCC cadets, students and environmental advocates.
Thematised on ‘Our Country, Our Environment, Our Responsibility’, the event focused on issues such as plastic pollution, river contamination and proper waste management.
During the rally, participants marched through the streets holding placards and chanting slogans such as “Refuse Single-Use Plastics, Save the Earth!” and “Clean Rivers, Green Future!”
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, RS Gill, who was part of the event, commended the youth-led initiative.
“The enthusiastic participation of the NCC cadets and young volunteers gives us hope for the future. It is heartening to see the youth leading the charge in protecting our environment,” Gill said.
On the other hand, Chairman of Meghalaya Pollution Control Board, R. Nainamalai, stressed the need for continued efforts. “While this rally is a significant step forward, our journey does not end here. We must continue spreading the message of cleanliness and environmental protection far and wide,” Nainamalai said.
