Stakeholders call for peace to boost tourism

SHILLONG, Sep 29: A conglomeration of 11 tourism organisation of the state has made a joint appeal, underlying the importance of maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in Meghalaya for the benefit of all tourism stakeholders and visitors.
The 11 organisation adopted this resolution during a meeting convened by the Tour Operators Association of Meghalaya on Saturday.
The organisation also reaffirmed their commitment to ensure the safety and security of tourists visiting the state.
The discussion focused on issues faced by tourist taxi drivers, particularly concerns raised by the All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (AKMTTA).
Besides the AKMTTA, the other organisation which attended the meeting included Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum, Tour Guides Association of Meghalaya, All Shillong Tourist Taxi Drivers Union Organization, Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association, Federation of Shillong Hotels, Sohra Region Tourism Association, Jaintia Tourism & Environment Society, Khasi Hills Tourist Taxi association, and Ri Bhoi Tourism & Environment Development Forum.
Following demands from the AKMTTA to restrict Assam cabs from ferrying passengers to tourist spots in the state, the All Assam United Motor Transport Association has threatened to stop commercial vehicles, carrying daily essentials from Assam, from entering Meghalaya.
