Food Bill to benefit Assam villagers: Minister

Neherubali(Assam): Assam Irrigation and Soil Conservation Minister Ardhendu Kumar Dey on Thursday said the food security bill would benefit 84 per cent villagers of the state to receive highly subsidised food grains.

Addressing a public information campaign on Bharat Nirman and flagship programme at Neherubali in Nagaon, Dey said two-third of the population will be legally entitled to receive highly subsidised food grains at Rs 3 per kg for rice Rs 2 per kg for wheat and Rs 1 per kg for coarse grains.

He said food security will be implemented in the state in February next and it will give a “Right” to the people to receive adequate quantity of food grains at a highly affordable price. About 80 crore people will be directly benefitted by the “landmark scheme in India”, the minister claimed. (PTI)
