GUWAHATI, Oct 1: Assam director general of police G. P. Singh on Tuesday said the state police force has gathered “strong evidence” against the persons arrested in the case related to incidents of planting of suspected IED-like materials in various parts of the state during Independence Day.

Notably, Assam Police had, with technical support of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), conducted co-ordinated raids across the state last month and apprehended 15 persons, including three women in the case.

On September 26, the NIA made its first arrest in the bomb-planting case when it arrested a person from Bengaluru. Reportedly, the arrested person had planned the entire operation in Assam.

The raids, conducted in as many as nine districts, came after prolonged intelligence gathering by Assam Police headquarters here, in coordination with NIA, based on specific inputs received from various sources during the course of investigation of attempted sabotage activity.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of Assam Police Day celebrations here, DGP Singh said the arrests are based on credible evidence.

“We have enough evidence against the arrested persons, which we will produce in the court. There is an extensive network of those involved in procuring and planting the bombs, which we have identified. There has been an exchange of money as well. So, we are preparing a chargesheet in this regard,” he said.

Incriminating facts had been untethered after preliminary interrogation of the apprehended persons and more information about the conspiracy is expected to be known after prolonged interrogation, in due course of time,” a statement from CPRO, Assam Police, had said after the arrests were made last month
