Shillong: The Meghalaya Chess Association (MCA) successfully organized the “1st Meghalaya State Team Chess Championship 2024” on Saturday at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Shillong. The event saw participation from 12 teams representing various districts of the state.
The tournament was conducted under the FIDE Swiss format, consisting of four rounds. After intense competition, the team “Meghalaya United” emerged victorious. The winning team included Bobby Lyngdoh (Captain), Silkam Sangma, Rijied Katrai, Barbith Sangma, and Krusen Shira (Reserve). The first runners-up of the championship were the “Game Challengers,” led by Captain Ardhendu Sekhar Mandal, along with Amar Bhandari, Gipolson Pahsyntiew, Anubhav Sharma, and Amit Saraf (Reserve).
Meghalaya United will represent the state in the “North-East Team Chess Championship 2024.
