SHILLONG: The Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Association of Meghalaya (JACATAM) has threatened that they would again resort to agitations if the Government failed to invite them for talks within the given deadline of January 27 to deliberate on the status of the various demands.
“The Government has sought a three months time to study our demands which expires on December 31. But we are yet to receive any intimation from the Government on the status of our demands. We would give the Government till January 27 to invite us for talks otherwise we will again resort to agitations if there is response from the Government,” JACATAM president ED Nongsiang said here on Saturday.
Pariat had assured that the government would find out ways and means to address the different issues put forth by the teachers and sought three months time.
He said that they would again meet after January 27 to discuss on the next course of action which might be repeating the agitations like last year.
Last year the teachers launched series of agitations protesting the nonchalant attitude of the Meghalaya deputy chief minister RC Laloo, holding education portfolio, and the state government towards their demands. The teacher’s agitation had affected the student’s community across the state.
The teachers under the JACATAM, a body of various teachers’ organizations, wanted discussion with the government on the provincialisation of teachers’ services, education.
