SHILLONG: In an irony of sorts, the National Commission for Women in collaboration with Meghalaya State Commission for Women has chosen “Our Patriarchal Society: Changing the mindset” as topic of essay writing completion in Meghalaya which is following matriliny.

The women commissions of the Centre and the State widely advertised the essay writing competition for the College and University students of Meghalaya on January 14 at Don Bosco Technical School, Laitumkhrah from 11 am to 1 pm.

While the first topic for the essay is “Ensuring safety and security for women in public space”, the second one is “Our Patriarchal Society: Changing the mindset”.

It appears to be illogical as to why a topic on patriarchal society was chosen in Meghalaya which has matrilineal system.
